In Xinjiang, the largest of
China’s provinces, aviation was
introduced in 1931. Chinese-German
airline company Eurasia’s route to
Europe passed though the province
and its ruler, Jin Shuren, started
to build up an air force. Influence
from the closest neighbour, the
Soviet Union, was strong.
